Vision

Cambodian-Americans have been through many traumatic experiences to get here. Washington State houses nearly 13,899 Cambodian-American households, many of whom residing in the greater Seattle.

Rootlessness and a lack of social and traditional values among the young, have been the cause of growing concern in the Cambodian-American community in Washington State, and it was determined that the appropriate approach would be to establish a Cambodian Monastery, known as Wat, hence our name “Wat Khemarak Pothiram” in the greater Seattle area.

Wat Khemarak Pothiram is a Khmer Cultural and Community Center. The Center will serve as a cultural, social, religious, educational and recreational center for people of all ages and ethnic.

The founding members of the Sahak khemararam Buddhist Association envisioned that  Wat Khemarak Pothiram is of a critical importance of the Cambodian community. Because much of the learning experiences take place outside the formal classroom, therefore there is a distinct need for a Wat, a Center in which young and old can come together to celebrate traditional ceremonies, enrich relationships among members of the community, neighbors, and extend the learning process.

The education and moral guidance for the young, and care of the elders are the Coeur of the main motivating factors behind the establishment of Sahak Kemararam Buddhist Association in hoping to cultivate the relationship between the elder and the young, aiming to preserve some Important culture and traditions, along with setting a foundation for the young generation to make the right decision in their lives if any difficult moral situation should arise. Such ethical teaching guidance leads to good citizenships.

The ambition of Sahak Khemararam Buddhist Association is To keep building for a Better and Productive Cambodian Community of tomorrow, in this New Home, the United States of America.
