Cultural and Community Center

The Sahak Khemararam Buddhist Association is a Non-Profit Corporation. Its purposes being providing a place called Wat, hence our name “Wat Khemarak Pothiram, a Khmer Cultural and Community Center, for the Practice and study of Buddhism, and establish programs and projects for the cultural, educational, charitable and social purposes to provide services to reflect the needs of the Cambodian individual and families of all age in the Washington State.

 

We would like to share with you our dreams of a better life for our Cambodian- Americans community. Our goal is to provide a large two floors building, with a Preah Vihear (Shrine of Buddha) on the second floor, a Khmer Cultural and Community Center in the first floor, a Kot (monk residence), a Stupa/Chedey, and a harmonious Garden Center for outside Meditation.


Preah Vihear, a special building that is consecrated just for the use of the Sangha (monk) to Ordain  persons to the Holy Life, for official meeting of the Order, and for the Buddhist Lenten period. It is also used as a place for the inside Meditation.


A Cultural and Community Center is a place where young and old can come together to celebrate traditional ceremonies, enrich relationship, a place for studying Khmer culture, traditions and a Museum to mainly housing the passed and the present of Khmer History.

Kot is a building for the monks to live. This is where monks have their private rooms for meditation,  enriching their religious and sociological study. 

 

Stupa  {Chedey) is a monument to house the relics of deceased persons. A garden place:   A  harmonious place for outdoor Meditation, enjoying and relaxing the life. All structures will be in a traditional Khmer Architectural style. The whole complex is called Wat, hence our name Wat Khemarak Pothiram.  It is a Khmer Cultural and Community Center of Seattle.
